A modern design elevated by historic elements.

A&E Design revitalized the ALPS Missoula headquarters, formerly a 1980s law office, into a contemporary workspace. Structural elements are artfully exposed, featuring historic qualities and reclaimed wood for timelessness. A central, wood-and-steel floating stair aids circulation, and an overhead skylight floods the space with natural light. Comprehensive updates were made to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and IT systems, as well as window replacements. The design seamlessly incorporates a 2,500 sf rooftop patio that connects indoor and outdoor spaces while offering a unique city view.

The two-story office is defined by rustic-modern aesthetics, showcasing clean lines and natural materials. Exposed concrete beams and walls maintain an industrial charm and historical context. The reception area features reclaimed wood from a nearby mercantile building, anchoring the design to downtown Missoula. Housed in the historic Florence Building, the project complies with National Register standards. Upgrades to mechanical, electrical, IT, and plumbing systems were executed without disrupting lower occupied floors.
