A contemporary masterpiece blending art and architecture.

Featuring an open floorplan, clean walls, and a flat roofline, this single-story residence is a striking example of contemporary architecture. Approaching the home between two oak trees, the experience is one of transcending time to a modern-day Japanese courtyard. A gated entrance reveals a koi pond situated amid wraparound hedges, giving an awe-inspiring impression of Portola Valley. Adjacent to the pond is a 200-foot-long swimming pool surrounded by a concrete patio that transitions inside through unembellished windows. The home is oriented to frame views of Windy Peak in the master suite and descend into the landscaped hillside.

To display the owners’ art collection, the interior space features layered flat planes of board-formed concrete walls with white vertical paneling. This provides the appearance of a gallery installation curated through every room. With maximum transparency, the home blurs the lines between interior and exterior spaces to accentuate its surroundings from every perspective.
