Creating a new trailhead for Montana adventurers.

A&E Design created the comprehensive five-phase master plan of Billings Logan International Airport’s update and expansion, closely collaborating with stakeholders, user groups, and the community to meet diverse needs and facilitate future additions. The initial phase, an expansion of the airport terminal, encompasses eight gates, concessions, restrooms, and enhanced screening facilities. This strategic layout elevates the traveler experience while also bolstering security and operational efficiency.

At the heart of the design, a centrally positioned great room affords passengers a welcoming and serene waiting area with clear vistas of all gates. Abundant skylights and expansive windows frame panoramic views of the northern plains and airfield, infusing the indoor space with natural illumination. Local artwork throughout the airport celebrates and highlights regional geography and culture.

Three bars, a food court, private restrooms, and a service animal relief area (SARA) have been thoughtfully integrated to accommodate diverse traveler preferences with comfortable amenities. Subsequent phases will introduce a redesigned lower lobby with concessions and greeting/farewell spaces, while relocating security screening and airport operations upstairs to enhance traveler flow and overall experience.
