The overarching theme driving the design of the new Winifred School is firmly rooted in the town’s agrarian-based respect for the land, rich heritage, and community performance. This facility aims to be the highest quality and most technologically advanced K-12 school in Montana. It features specialty instructional spaces dedicated to the continued advancement of agriculture and horticulture, and contemporary technologies are integrated throughout.
A&E Design equipped this rural school to teach students essential cultivation skills and knowledge ingrained in the Winifred culture. A vertical garden uses natural rainwater harvesting technologies to demonstrate the processes involved in farming for the future. Students develop academic and practical skills within the new wood and metals shop, digital design space, and classrooms for science, agriculture, and math instruction. These features are punctuated throughout the school with state-of-the-art equipment. A sky view game capture camera system and covered bleachers overlooking the AstroTurf field enhance the football experience for student-athletes and their fans. This one-of-a-kind educational facility also incorporates sustainability with ground source heat pumps, a geothermal well field, and a solar wall.
Each design element aligns with the school’s mission to promote an atmosphere of excellence and prepare students to become lifelong learners.
