Elysian K-8 School embodies 21st century learning with carefully crafted collaboration areas and flexible learning spaces for a wide variety of age groups. The design allows elementary and middle school students to share common spaces while maintaining their individual identities within the overall layout. The library reflects the changing nature of information technology while providing a literacy-rich environment. A technology boulevard offers opportunities for exploration with various media, as well as interactive displays for hands-on learning, while a medley of unique breakout spaces serve as points of connection for students to study, gather, and socialize.

An insider perspective
The design team facilitated an education specification process, identifying key stakeholders to provide guidance, goals, and feedback through a series of workshops. The information gathered served as a touchstone for all design decisions.
Versatility meets function
The middle school breakout spaces were defined from openings in the existing structure. Each space offers the flexibility to create unique learning environments, offering lounge seating and an open layout for presentations and group activities.
A community partnership
Integrating a sense of community pride was essential. The design focused on an inviting and identifiable entrance to the campus, in addition to incorporating meeting, performance, and recreation spaces to promote shared use with the community.
